Historical tour of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

We were part of the Camberley & District Probus Club tour in November this year of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst provided by the Sandhurst Trust.

As it states on the Sandhurst Trust website, our 3 hour tour was of “the main Prestige Rooms of Old College including the Indian Army Memorial Room, Wellington Room, the History Room, and the Old College Grand Entrance. Also included are the two chapels on site – The Royal Memorial Chapel and Roman Catholic Chapel”.

Our tour began, as we gathered together for the tour, with tea and biscuits in the Wellington Room, which contains a depiction of the battle of Waterloo by Sir William Allan. Arriving at the Grand Entrance access to the steps, leading up to the grand entrance, was limited by being occupied by soldiers and bandsman practicing for the upcoming passing out parade.

In the Grand Entrance are two superb paintings, one of the Royal Family gathered on the steps for Prince Harry’s passing out at the Sovereign’s Parade. A reminder, if one were needed, of the military connections that Harry has given up. On the opposite wall is a splendid painting of Queen Elizabeth II looking regal.

We next visited the Indian Army Memorial Room, which leads off the Grand Entrance. The room full of paintings and memorabilia, and importantly some excellent stained glass windows. Without more of my wittering’s here are some of the photos of our visit.
