Help Surrey Heath Tree Wardens clear invasive rhododendrons in Lightwater Country Park

The recently formed Surrey Heath Tree Wardens, part of the Surrey Tree Wardens group, are an active bunch.

They’ve organised two days of rhododendron clearance in Lightwater Country Park on Friday and Saturday mornings, 16th & !7th February, from 10:00 till 13:00 hrs.

They’ve volunteers registered for Friday and for Saturday. They invite you to come along and help if at all possible, and make it a great start to their new organisation. More details in our Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/events/612952159052975/

  1. Rhodo’s in that pic as far as the eye can see !

Its all very clear clearing truely invasive stuff, but as SWTs ‘Desolation of Smaug’ showed on Brentmoor last year, one can go too far – and this year they cut down that beautiful Amelanchier on Sandpit Hill – just before it produced its wonderful early Spring Blossom.

It had been there over 40 years … and suddenly its undesireable … WALOB !
