Four Surrey Heath milestones awarded Grade II listing

Happy I am at the email I received yesterday. The Listing Coordinator for the South of Historic England confirmed that Grade II listing has been awarded to four milestones on the A30 in Surrey Heath. Here’s what was said in the email,

“Following your application to add the above building to the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest, we have now considered all the representations made and completed our assessment of the building. I am delighted to inform you that having considered our recommendation, the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport has decided to add Milestones on A30, 24, 25, 26, and 27 miles from Hyde Park Corner, to the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. The buildings are now listed at Grade II.”

Grade II listing is described by Historic England HERE. Grade II status is awarded to: Milestone on A30 at Scotswood – 24 miles from Hyde Park Corner, Milestone on A30 in Windlesham – 25 miles from Hyde Park Corner, Milestone on A30 in Bagshot – 26 miles from Hyde Park Corner, and Milestone on A30 south-west of Bagshot – 27 miles from Hyde Park Corner.

  1. Congratulations Tim!

Great result and a credit to you and your ‘helpers’ for all the effort you have put in to achieve this ‘Historic Milestone’!

  2. Well done Tim, your efforts have paid off nicely. One thought though, does the listing have any impact on future maintenance work such as the cleaning and painting that you carried out?

  3. Will, listing doesn’t impact future maintenance as far as I understand. Think Reg Davis and I will need to give them a clean at some point.
