NASA’s compelling video of the rotation of the Moon

Here’s another of my serendipitous finds on the Internet. Go to the NASA site HERE for detailed background on the Lunar reconnaissance Orbiter [LROC].

  1. Nice find Tim, I love how technology allows us to appreciate the beauty of science such as orbital mechanics without requiring a level of mathematical understanding that I can only dream of having.
I came across this video a little while ago that shows the effect of lunar libration or wobble resulting from the elliptical orbit and ‘tidal locking’, which ensures the moon always has the same surface facing Earth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjLeLwSLjeE This ‘wobble’ allows us to see up to nearly 60% of the lunar surface during the course of the orbit.
