Today at 4.0 pm the encampment of travellers on Lightwater Playing Field, behind All Saints’ Church, is continuing, with additional travellers having arrived since Monday.
Protection from incursion onto Briar Avenue Playing Field, adjoining the Briars Community Centre in Lightwater, is a barrier added to the entrance. A probable necessary move, though one that restricts resident access to the Community Centre car park.
astute observation there Tim !

Usually damage caused entering and the mess afterwards is ignored by authorities that would have the rest of us in court. here is a reminder of the law on fly tipping. Fixed penalty of £400 for fly tipping can be issued on the spot since 2016. Vehicles involved can be seized by police. Fly-tipping is a criminal offence punishable by a fine of up to £50,000 or 12 months imprisonment if convicted in a Magistrates’ Court. The offence can attract an unlimited fine and up to 5 years imprisonment if convicted in a Crown Court.

Given the latest incursion behind the church, I hope someone has blocked the entrance to the The Briars centre. The council destroyed illegally parked caravans down Swift Lane, why can’t they do the same with the illegal travellers ones. There is no point in fining them as they don’t have addresses to post summonses to. Are the police checking the legality of the cars & lorries ? I doubt it, it is easier to clobber folks with fixed addresses.
