Surrey Heath Sports Awards 2017 Shortlists Announce

Surrey Heath Borough Council announce the shortlists for their 2017 Sports Awards.

The shortlists for the Surrey Heath Sports Awards 2017 have been revealed.

The awards are the perfect opportunity to recognise and reward talented local athletes, coaches, volunteers, teams and clubs for their outstanding commitment and achievements in sport over the past 12 months.

Following a fantastic year of sport in Surrey Heath, dozens of nominations were received, up nearly a third on last year.

Organised by Surrey Heath Borough Council, the awards will celebrate the best in local sporting achievement with a special ceremony at Camberley Theatre on 23 October, where the winners will be announced.

This year’s shortlists for a range of individual, team and club awards are:

Camberley Theatre Young Sports Team of the Year

  • Camberley RFC U14 Squad
  • Chobham Cricket Club U11
  • Surrey Heath Wasps Netball Team

Eagle Radio Sports Team of the Year

  • Camberley & Farnborough Hockey Club Ladies 1st XI
  • Camberley Bowling Club
  • Chobham Community Rugby

Specsavers Sports Club of the Year

  • Bagshot Tennis Club
  • Windle Valley Runners
  • Chobham RFC

Surrey Playing Fields Young Volunteer of the Year

  • Mikayla Dodson, Camberley Town Youth FC
  • Ollie Wickes, Chobham RFC
  • Oliver Pile, Camberley Judo Club

Basepoint Disability Sports Award

  • Marc Dallaway, Camberley Boxing Club
  • Mike O’Regan, Chobham Mixed Ability Rugby
  • Adrian Gale, Valley End Cricket Club Rascals

Active Surrey Coach of the Year

  • Denise Holman, Camberley & District Athletics Club
  • Natalie Hall, Camberley Judo Club
  • Sam Voight, Camberley RFC

Complete Coaching Sports Personality of the Year

  • Harry Dugmore, Camberley RFC
  • Jade Blackburn, Sevenoaks Suns Basketball
  • Ali Gardner, Camberley & Farnborough Hockey Club

Legacy Clothing Young Sports Personality of the Year

    • Summer Shaw, Camberley Judo Club
    • Smrithi Shirol, Swifts Junior Badminton Club
    • Finn Livingstone-Learmonth, Chobham RFC

Arena Leisure Centre Outstanding Service to Sport

    • Gary Dunford, Frimley Cricket Club
    • Hugh Scott, Chobham RFC
    • Charlie Williams, Camberley RFC
    • John Wickens, Bagshot FC
    • Steve Moody, Windle Valley Runners

Last year’s winners included Team GB rugby sevens star Phil Burgess as Sports Personality of the Year, and Swifts Juniors Badminton Club as Club of the Year.

All the winners in the Surrey Heath Sports Awards are automatically entered into the Surrey Sports Awards. Last year, two Surrey Heath winners – Pedro Lemos (Coach of the Year) and Penny Froude (Disability Sports Award) – went on to triumph at the county-wide event.
