Le Tour Day 6: My thoughts

Following all the drama in Day 5 of the Tour de France, yesterday’s stage with its first excursion into the mountains, was an altogether quieter day.

About my predictions about Chris Froome being the stage winner, and Geraint Thomas retaining the overall lead of the tour, well, I was close, but not close enough.

Fabio Aru was the stage winner, and now looks a strong candidate for a podium place in Paris at the end of the tour. Chris Froome was third on the stage, and is now the overall leader of the tour, though the time margins to other contenders is small. Geraint Thomas ran out of puff, and such is the kudos, looked disappointed to have lost the yellow jersey.

Today’s stage is one for the sprinters. Such a shame that Cavendish is not there to compete. My predictions,

  • While the sprinters who’ll be in contention are Demare, Greipel, and Kittel, my prediction is that it’s a day for breakaways. So, here goes. I predict the stage winner is Stephen Cummings, or maybe Michael Matthews.
