This is the first in an occasional series on the mixing of cocktails.
Why, you might, reasonably, ask? Well, a number of years ago while on a conference in Amsterdam I ordered a gin-based White Lady cocktail from a well stocked upmarket hotel bar. Now, the White Lady that was made for me was truly heavenly. Sadly, no matter how many I’ve had since – not that many since you ask – have ever been equal to my memory of that original cocktail. I’ve therefore concluded that there’s no definitive authority of the mixing of cocktails
I think when seeing all the drinks behind a bar in their many colours and in strangely shaped bottles, it’s easy to give into the temptation to order something exotic. Also, it’s fun to challenge a barman, and to get them into conversation.
