  1. Umm! No one from Chobham standing but a Camberley resident is standing for election for a ward they don’t live in. Why is this?

  2. Dr Grumpy, Parties like to be able to offer their supporters a candidate to vote for. When they’re unlikely to win their known as ‘paper candidates’, since they’re unlikely to do much canvassing or leafleting.

    From Surrey County Council website:
    Who can stand for election:
    You must:
    – be a British subject, or a citizen of the Commonwealth or the European Union; and
    – be at least 18 years of age by the date of the election.
You also need to be able to say yes to one or more of the following questions:

are you registered to vote in the county?
    – have you owned or rented land or premises in the county for the whole of the last 12 months?
    – have you had your main job in the county during the last 12 months?
have you lived in the county for the whole of the last 12 months?
