Steve McQueen’s car from the film Bullitt found in Mexico scrapyard

The Daily Telegraph report that a Ford Mustang 390GT Fastback found in a car scrapyard in Mexico, by two car enthusiasts, was the lost original Mustang used in the film Bullitt.

The film used two 1968 Ford Mustang’s and two 1968 Dodge Chargers. One of the Mustangs was sold to a private collector after filming, while the other Mustang, and the remaining Charger were sold for scrap having been damaged during filming.

The 1968 film contained a car chase through San Francisco, with the baddies in the Dodge Charge and policeman Steve McQueen in the Ford Mustang.

To this day the 11 minute chase sequence tops the ranking of the best ever car chases. I couldn’t resist the opportunity to post the YouTube video of the car chase.  It’s in three parts – Prelude, The Chase Part 1, and Chase Scene.

Question: how many hub caps can you see flying of the Dodge Charger? Answer later.
