A pleasing conjunction in the night sky, and my rubbishy photo of it

I must thank Michael Kjoege – a reader and occasional commenter here – for his kind words about the blog and my photos. Bound to happen, just as I get praise for my photography skills, that skill deserts me.

The night sky yesterday evening had a pleasing conjunction of planets and the Moon. Venus can be seen below the crescent Moon with Mars above the Moon, though fainter than both the Moon and Venus.

The BBC News website article  – Stargazers spot glowing Venus and Moon – contains some good photos of the event. My photo is rubbish. Here it is anyway – hope you can just pick out the spot of light in the top left hand corner, which is Mars, and Venus below the Moon. The sight will be available in the night sky throughout January.
