Leaf fall camouflages mushrooms

Another heathland walk, another sighting of mushrooms, including one that I’ve never seen before..

A couple of readers have told me of experts they know on mushrooms. I’ll hopefully have a chance to talk to them about what I’ve seen.

Promise there’ll be no more on mushrooms till next autumn, Here are three photos taken on yesterday’s walk from Lightwater to Deepcut.

  1. BBC Radio 4’s ‘The Life Scientific’ two weeks ago had a Prof of mycology from Cardiff University who had me enthralled over her discoveries into the life cycles of fungi. Well worth a listen on the BBC’s iPlayer

  2. The one you don’t want to see is honey fungus, which has killed one tree in my garden and is working on another now, with no known cure.
