Photo Quiz No.38: It’s The South Bank Lion on Westminster Bridge

As commenter Speedicus Triplicatum has successfully answered the questions, and in accurate detail, it’s best I give the answer now. It’s The South Bank Lion, which stands on a plinth on the east end of Westminster Bridge in London, beside County Hall.

Photos below show its location, and the information plaque on the statue’s plinth.

  1. The ‘South Bank Lion’ – Once guarding the entrance to the LION Brewery in Lambeth, demolished to make way for the RFH: twas made in 1837 … acquired by British Rail, painted red outside Waterloo Station !

…. but restored to original and now located at the south end of Westminster Bridge.

Has a mate now located near Twickenham Stadium and painted gold … sigh
