A chat with Alan, the driver of an Isle of Wight Steam Railway diesel shunting engine

I fully understand that not every reader will be fascinated by my video on our visit to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. For my own amusement I simply had to join the video clips together. I hope you’ll find some interest in the video.

It’s easy to see why the Railway is a past winner of the National Lottery Best Heritage Project, and many other awards. The visitor experience is well organised, staffed by ultra-friendly volunteers, and is restoring, maintaining, and operating part of Britain’s railway heritage. Especially impressive is the care lavished on the carriages, which are clean and as comfortable as can be for carriages that are mostly 100 years old. Our visit was to the Diesel Gala day, we’ll definitely return, next time to see the steam trains. A great boy’s adventure.
