Ten different, yet still wonderful, performances of the ‘Nessum Dorma’ aria

I spotted on a political website MP Will Quince singing ‘Nessum Dorma’ the aria from Puccini’s opera Turandot. It’s surprising at just how good he is. Apparently he’s a contestant in the upcoming edition of Britain’s Got Talent, as a challenge from  a constituent. Anyway, since I love grand opera – especially the arias – not so much the recitative. I googled the aria, and come up with this splendid website of ten performances of the aria from different tenors, by ClassicFM.

Can’t think of anything better to start the day. The aria is full of passion, and the final declamatory phrase is ‘Vincero’ – translates as I will win. [See lyrics HERE]. Meanwhile here’s an early Pavarotti version to enjoy. This’ll make 11 versions.

  1. A grand opera fan, eh! Do you sing too? Come and join Park Opera, your local ENO!! We rehearse Thursday evenings at South Hill Park on the edge of Bracknell. No auditions necessary for chorus but fantastic semi pro principals. Started rehearsals for Rigoletto last night – always delighted to have new members! Happy to have a chat about it if you’re interested – and delighted for our society to be plugged in your pages!! Sue Mainwaring
