My Collins Bird Guide says this bird is unmissable

Last week, on a lovely sunny day, we visited Abbotsbury Gardens on the Dorset coast near the Chesil Beach. More on our visit later. What I must tell you about is the most colourful bird I’ve ever seen.

A Golden Pheasant wandered past us us we were drinking tea. Presumably looking for crumbs from our table. My Collins Bird Guide has one word next to an image of the bird, and that’s, ‘Unmissable!’ Here are some of photos of it as it walked by. Click on images to expand.

  1. What a coincidence, on the 7th, drove past the gardens to the beach car park and walked on the Chesil Beach, which is all small rounded pebbles which make it hard work to climb back to the top from sea level. We also saw it from the Portland Bill end.

  2. Colin, indeed a coincidence. We climbed to the Chesil beach viewpoint in Abbotsbury Gardens. A lovely day, weather glorious, and view spectacular. we may even have looked down onto you on the beach. Blog post coming on our garden visit.
