Last’s week’s adventure for us was to be in a party from Camberley & District Probus Club visiting the Bombay Sapphire Distillery in Hampshire.
I won’t tell you everything we learned in our fun visit, because that’ll spoil it for when you go.
The new home of Bombay Sapphire is Laverstoke Mill, a restored paper mill on the banks of the River Test in Whitchurch, Hampshire. There’s a fascinating history, both to the mill, and the creation of Bombay Sapphire gin, which derives from G&J Greenall’s Warrington’s gin of the 1760’s.
Bacardi, the owners, have made a considerable investment in the distillery, creating a fun and classy visitor experience. In the tour you get to understand the botanicals – the stuff that creates the flavour – and to choose your flavour selection for your free gin cocktail.
There’s a useful background to the whole story in Bombay Sapphire: A Brand History, in The Spirit Business. Here’s my photo record of our visit,
