Surrey Heath remembers the sacrifice of the Battle of the Somme

Yesterday evening was the beginning of Surrey Heath’s activities to commemorate the Battle of the Somme.

At Camberley Theatre the Chairman of Surrey County Council, the Mayor of Surrey Heath, County Councillor David Ivison, and local military historian Murray Rowlands, all spoke about the programme of events in Surrey Heath remembering the Battle of the Somme.

The first event was a performance of Peter Gill’s play Meet Tommy Atkins. A moving portrayal of a soldier’s life in battle and post war. Wonderfully acted by Peter Gill, and a fitting start to the remembrance activities.
