Lovely cruising on the Thames in Steam Launch Streatley

A party comprising Egham Royal Show organisers and their guests cruised on the Thames on @French Brothers Ltd wonderful 111 year old steam launch, Streatley.

The condition of S.L Streatley is hugely impressive. It does French Brothers great credit, and the dedication of engineers Chris and Ivan to keep the launch mechanically sound is to be generously appreciated.  As is my wont, I chatted to Chris the engineer, and Chris the captain, taking plenty of photos and a short video, of which these below are my best.

What we guests don’t appreciate, which I found out from both Chris’s, is the amount of time it takes to get the launch steamed up, and similarly to quench the the fire in the boiler at the end of the cruise. As a faint evening nip in the air occurred, no problem, we sat comfortably with our backs warmed by the the heat from the boiler. A cruise to be recommended.
