Remembering the sacrifices on the Somme: Part 1 of 3

The centenary of the beginning of World War 1 battle of the Somme is July 1st 2016. Lasting until the 18th November that year, it was the largest battle of World War 1 on the Western Front; more than one million men were wounded or killed, making it one of the bloodiest battles in human history.

Surrey Heath Museum has arranged a series of remembrance events of the battle. There’s also a Somme Study Day on July 2nd at Camberley Theatre, about which details in the next article.
