Free sports coaching available for 7-16 year olds

Surrey Heath Borough Council today announced free coaching for youngsters in the run up to the P&G Surrey Youth Games,

Girls%20FootballLocal youngsters wanting to try out a new sport or get better at one they already play can take advantage of free sports coaching in the borough over the next couple of months.

In conjunction with the P&G Surrey Youth Games, Surrey Heath Borough Council is offering coaching sessions from April to June, for sports including: boxing, cricket, football and hockey, as well as table tennis, netball, rugby and squash, plus many more.

Sports such as Boccia, a target ball sport similar in principle to bowls, will also offer opportunities for young people with physical or mental impairments.

Coaching will take place at various venues across the borough. Each sport is led by fully qualified coaches with sessions taking place either after school or at the weekend.

Surrey Heath’s portfolio holder for business, Cllr Craig Fennell said: “The free coaching sessions being offered in the run up to the P&G Surrey Youth Games 2016 not only offer young people a fantastic opportunity to try out a new sport and make new friends, but will increase the amount of regular exercise they enjoy. Most importantly, it’s great fun!”

Every child attending the sessions has a chance of being selected to represent Team Surrey Heath at the P&G Surrey Youth Games 2016 on 18 and 19 June. Hosted at Surrey Sports Park in Guildford, the games have an exciting Olympic style format, which will see Team Surrey Heath compete with the other 10 Surrey boroughs and districts, not only for medals in individual sports but also for the coveted overall borough trophy.

The coaching sessions are open to anyone below county standard in their chosen sport and currently living in or attending school in Surrey Heath.
