The sculptures adorning the exterior of County Hall

Yesterday I was in London for a formal lunch at the London Marriott Hotel County Hall. It’s in part of what was the home of the London County Council, later the Greater London Council. The history of the development of the building is extensively described in Survey of London monograph 17, County Hall.

Having a few moments to spare I walked round the building taking a photo of each of the large sculptures on the exterior of the building. I didn’t capture everything, but most of the sculptures by Ernest Cole and Alfred Hardiman. It’s far better to read the descriptions of each of these sculptures in Ornamental Passions than I’d be capable of providing.
