Oddity 1: The London Stone

Historical oddities tickle me, especially those of which I’ve previously known little, or nothing.

The London Stone, residing behind a grill at pavement level in Cannon Street, is one such oddity. Cripes, I was a regular visitor to the branch office in Cannon Street for a company for whom I worked in the early 1970’s. Gloriously inattentive was I of history then. Not so now. Perhaps retirement allows both time and perspective.

The Daily Mail, has two articles on The London Stone this year. One where they’re outraged – aren’t they always, and a more recent one reporting on the stone’s next move. Here are a couple of photos [both Creative Commons licensed] of the stone and it’s current – though shortly to be moved – location.
