Yesterday was the day of the monthly lunch of Camberley & District Probus Club – retired professional gentlemen having a chinwag over lunch, and enjoying and after lunch speaker, and regular and interesting outings.
Jonathan Jones the Town Crier of Farnham and the Mace Bearer for Rushmoor Borough Council was our after lunch speaker. A thoroughly entertaining and informative talk Jonathan gave us. He even read out a shout/cry [not sure what’s the correct term]. Boy, oh, boy, does Jonathan have a helluva loud voice. I sat close to him, and took the photo of him delivering his shout.
I think having a Town Crier adds to the gaiety, fun, and civic personality. Jonathan spoke about Terry Stubbings, a town crier who moved from Lincoln to a district outside Liverpool, and then became the Town Crier of Liverpool. Terry now greets passengers on cruise liners that dock in Liverpool. Surely, a splendid bit of touristic theatre.
Couldn’t resist the opportunity to be photographed with Jonathan.
