RIP Lemmy, lead singer and bassist of Motörhead

Mark Marek Photography

Sad news. Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister vocal and bass of rock band Motörhead has died aged 70.

The band’s, Ace of Spades track, is one of my top ten all time great rock albums. Released in 1980, it’s the definitive Motörhead anthem, brash, fast, loud, and raucous. A true classic heavy metal style rock song. The three band members, Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister vocal and bass,  Eddie ‘Fast Eddie’ Clarke guitar, and Phil ‘Philthy Animal’ Taylor drums, make one helluva noise. This YouTube video below, while not up to the quality or the popularity of later versions, has the necessary raw energy.

In 2007 I wrote about Fast Eddie being mentioned in a parliamentary debate, and Lemmy is wont to relate the importance of the West Midlands in heavy metal rock history.

Turn up the volume and enjoy.
