Lightwater’s Community Christmas Tree is in the memorial garden opposite the Lightwater war memorial. Provided by Windlesham Parish Council, the switching on of Christmas Tree lights is through the parishioners of All Saints’ Church, following their preceding informal carol service.
I mentioned my pleasure in my photo of last year’s lights switch-on being the front cover of the Roundabout – the parish magazine. The weather wasn’t as kind to the party leaving the church service and its candlelit walk to the Christmas Tree. It was just too windy for the candles. Even so, the count down to the switch-on by Rev Mark Wallace brought out a healthy cheer from the assemblage.
Sadly there were few Christmas lights in the village square this year. In the changeover from Duffy’s Budgen’s to The co-operative food they were discarded, much to the annoyance of the Lightwater Business Association, whose property they were.
