There’s a meeting of Surrey Heath Local Area Committee next Thursday evening from 6.0pm at High Cross Church, Knoll Road, Camberley.
Curious about the role of a Local Committee, I’ve reported here on its purpose in ‘Are you bothered by parking, traffic speeds, or road maintenance?’. It’s also explained HERE.
One can be awfully cynical about the value of attending this committee, and the value of either asking questions, or presenting a petition. Yes, the process of local government can seem slow. Concerns are addressed, and change does happen, albeit slowly.
It is though a public forum, where decision making is visible. The local press is in attendance, occasionally, so issues of great concern will be given wider exposure.
Is it worth attending this committee to raise concerns about road safety and traffic. You betcha it is. Relentless pressure can make a difference.

Incidentally, does anyone know how to bid for the unallocated £7K of ‘Parking’ Budget available – it could be well deployed on the not-fit-for-purpose CP at the A322 Gordons roundabout …

The agenda for the 10Mar16 Local Commitee includes a detailed report on Tim Brooks Petition …… as might be expected very little has been actioned – some resurfacing of the hill & bends from the Maultway to Macdonald Rd junction, and some surface assessments and skid-tests on the remaining section thru to the A322.
The repititive and long-winded report has to be mined for the main reason given not to signalise the Red Rd / Macdonald Rd junction – “an impact on traffic flow thru to the A322 …. and the liklihood of more rat running …”

….. of course, the (rush hour) traffic is going to hit the A322 Gordons R’bout bottleneck and backup from there – so to introduce lights at Macdonald Rd would in fact make little difference to (say) journey time to the M3 … and in fact such Lights would cause a pulse in arrival rates at the later Junctions and the A322, thus benefitting an exit from the Briar & Lightwater Junctions.
But what do I know ?

and of course the rush hour traffic flow will only get worse when the development of the 1200 new homes on the Deepcut/Princess Royal Barracks/Mindenhurst (or whatever you want to cal it) is finished, but don’t expect joined up thinking on what the impact locally of that will be !!

Yep – The Deepcut PRB anticipated volumes triggered the 2014 ‘Mitigation debate’ for Maultway / Red Road Junctions …… shouldnt be long now until we see the planned upgrades to the Maultway/Red Rd R’bout and the extra lane for the approach to the A322 Gordons R’bout !

If these actually happen, and are anything like the time being taken to do the ongoing upgrade of the Coral Reef roundabout on the A322, there will be chaos and hold-ups for many months while the work is being done.

Agreed – that CR junction is unbelievable …. progress can be counted in half-dozen units of kerbstones laid per week, and then removed to install drainage grips …. not to mention willy-nilly lane closures – but of course, the Budget stretched to a Speed Camera !
