West Dean Gardens – a glorious West Sussex garden

I’m always keen to pass on information about good places to visit. This recommendation is for garden lovers, who’re also interested in having a cup of tea and a bit to eat in pleasant surroundings.

West Dean Gardens surround West Dean College, located six miles north of the historic city of Chichester in West Sussex.

We visited the gardens recently as part of a group from Camberley & District Probus Club. Always desirous of a cup of tea on arrival, and a chance to set ones bearings for the visit, almost all of our party thought the same.

The extensive parkland setting means the gardens don’t get crowded. While the flower borders, 300ft Edwardian pergola, and sunken garden provide visual excitement, the Victorian glass houses and walled garden are just as interesting. Worth a visit. Here’s my brief photo montage [as usual, click on images to expand].
