A tractor ploughing match sounds like an activity that occurs in rural parts of the country. Not so. It’s a surprisingly popular leisure activity.
Leisure, you query. Well, nowadays farmers use satellite navigation in their latest high-tech tractors to plough the fields. Therefore, it’s hobbyist tractor owners wanting to prove their ploughing skills.
We attended the West End, Windlesham & District Agricultural & Horticultural Society’s ploughing match in 2009, held in field behind Longacres Garden Centre on the A30. [The photo is of this event]
We’ve wanted to visit such a match again, and missed the recent huge bank holiday Monday Chertsey Show ploughing match. So we’re aiming to attend this year’s West End Ag & Hort’s ploughing match.
Tractor Ploughing Match: Sunday 8th September 2013 on land at Manor Farm, Stoke D’Abernon, KT11 3PU. Ploughing commences at 10.15am and finishes not later than 2.0pm, followed by prize giving at 2.30pm.
From our experience in 2009, it’s best to take your own refreshments and seating.
