Home-Start Surrey Heath held their 24th AGM this morning. I attended this thoroughly uplifting event. Briefly, this is what they say they do,

“We provide tailored, personalised support to families, in their home and in our group. We recruit and train volunteers, who are usually parents themselves, to work at the heart of the family – in the home – to offer them informal, friendly, and confidential support.”

Not only are they good at what they do, but are effective and immensely hard-working fundraisers. With only around half of their funding coming from Surrey County Council and some uncertainty at continuance at that level, the need to find funding support from elsewhere is vital.

I talked to chairperson Olive Proudfoot about the successes of the charity during the year and about one of the donations they received.

We also spoke about the young mum who told the audience about the help she had from Home-Start, who said,

“My health visitor referred us to Home-Start Surrey Heath, and I can honestly say it made a massive difference to us as a family.”

Home-Start Surrey Heath are looking for volunteers, and of course funding. Do get in touch with them if you can help.
