There’s yet another comment to the blog post about the changes to Windlesham Arboretum, following the death of its creator, Major Spowers.
Kathy is the latest to comment, concluding with the words, ‘So sad’. I think it’s time I began writing a few letters, to understand the plans for the Arboretum of residents and the charitable trust, while also passing on the concerns of those who’ve commented here, and who’ve taken the time to email me.

It’ll be very interesting to see how your correspondence proceeds.
I’m concerned that the current restrictive developments under-way will result in an elitist environment that’ll dissuade other nature lovers from joining the ‘society’ (or whatever the membership is called), and will actually attract vandals who enjoy “breaking the rules”.
It’s rather strange that nowhere in the SCT’s invitation “to join with the trust”, is the arboretum or Windlesham Arboretum mentioned…
Keep us informed please.

I felt really sad and quite shocked visiting the Aboretum after a short absence. It was like walking through a prison camp with all the fencing and barbed wire. It was very unwelcoming despite the beauty all meticulously fenced in. I don’t mind joining the ‘trust’ there dosen’t seem a way of doing it online – I appreciate there must be a cost for upkeep but it is just so offensive the way this has been done.

Couldn’t agree more. Went there for the first time today having recently moved to the area. A most beautiful place but they could not have made it feel more unwelcoming if they tried.
