Scotch whisky industry is buoyant

Following up on the previous post about Scotch whisky, it’s another good news story about another expanding industry seeing export sales increase, just like the motor industry. Drinks giant Diageo is investing £1 billion over the coming years building five new Scotch whisky distilleries.

Anyway, let’s see the sales numbers. The Scotch Whisky Association report record annual sales in their figures up to June 2012 HERE, or in their Good News Britain article.

The table shows up some interesting facts. Wasn’t France once the biggest export market for Scotch, not anymore it seems. Sales to the USA have had surprisingly dramatic increases in recent years. Wonder why? Also, I’m surprised to see sales to Japan so low, I’d always thought that they were once the biggest export market for Scotch whiskey.
