Lightwater: centre of the known universe, well almost

We live in Lightwater, and I’m a Lightwater borough councillor. So I’m bound to extol Lightwater. Humourously, I’m wont to say that Lightwater is the centre of the known universe. Well, obviously not.

As we’re 4th place nationally in the Family Friendly Hotspots Report, which claims to be “A unique analysis of 2,400 postcode districts in England and Wales, revealing the best places to bring up children”, it does support my view that Lightwater and the nearby villages are great places to live, work, and bring up children.

The national media have picked up on THIS press release of Family Investments about the report, which is sure to make places in the top ten more popular. Guildford is the only other place in Surrey to appear in the Top 20 family friendly places, and then only at 19th place.

Here’s what the report says about Lightwater,

“Lightwater is a village in Surrey, located only 26 miles south-west of London. Its popularity with holidaymakers and commuters alike makes it unsurprising that its population has grown rapidly within the last sixty years.

The village is well equipped and boasts full medical facilities and a veterinary surgery, a school with very strong Key Stage 2 results, a library, pubs, a post office, a bank and a range of shops, among other amenities.

What is more, it also has its own country park with 100 acres of heathland, including a nature trail, leisure centres and visitors centre. All of these facilities explain why it is so popular with young families.”

It’s pleasing that the report used solidly based factors for their assessment, such as OFSTED, Police, Office of National Statistics, and Mouseprice for house price data.

Hatip: Daily Mail for table.

  1. It’s the mention of “holidaymakers” that intrigues me. Where are they? Where do they go? Where do they stay?
