Seeing The Boat Project’s ‘Collective Spirit’ yacht

In July last year a team from The Boat Project visited Surrey Heath, at Lightwater Country Park Heathland Visitor Centre, to receive donations from the public toward the creation of the ’Collective Spirit’ yacht.

If my memory is OK, it was Cllr Liane Gibson who supported Surrey Heath’s inclusion in The Boat Project’s source for contributions in wood, and the Council Leisure team who produced a piece of wood on which most of the councillors signed.

At the Southampton Boat Show last week we got a chance to see the yacht and view the contributions from Surrey Heath. Sadly, the Boat Project’s website doesn’t show individual contributions. You have to buy the book to see them.

Surrey Heath Council’s piece of wood was contribution number 881, and was placed in the cockpit of the boat. The important thing about each contribution is the story attached. It was good to see the RNLI pencil we contributed displayed along with other pencils, again placed in the cockpit.

Here’s a photo montage of the boat.
