I’m not an alumnus of a university. I’ve only token interest worldwide university rankings, and I knew nothing about the publisher of the rankings. That said, it’s good to see that the UK’s top universities fare well in comparison to others in the QS World University Rankings 2012-13.
Four of the top six universities are UK ones. They are, Cambridge at number 2; University College London at number 4, Oxford at number 5, and Imperial College at number 6. After that, there are four other UK universities in the top 50.
What’s new to me is that QS - short for QS Quacquarelli Symonds – is a UK business. Founded only in 1990. It says of itself that it, ”has established itself as the leading global provider of specialist higher education and careers information and solutions.” Don’t know about you, but I think that’s impressive considering that you might reasonably have assumed that a US-based business would dominate this sector, given its market size and the number of its universities. It’s pleasing to see that QS is headquartered in the UK.
Just thought you might like to know.
