Visit to Wanborough Great Barn

Our last Heritage Open Day visit of the year has been to Wanborough Great Barn. The Barn is in Wanborough, naturally enough, which is about 6 km west of Guildford on the northern slopes of the Hog’s Back, and lies between Puttenham and Normandy.

The barn was extensively restored in 1997 as part of the planning gain from the erection of adjacent new houses, following the sale of a farm and farm buildings.

While the restored parts are obvious, nothing can take away from the grandeur of the internal oak frame. The oak trees used in the construction have been dated to the 1380′s and early 1400′s. The building has been extended twice, in 1705 and late 1800′s. Now owned by Guildford Borough Council, who host open days during the spring and summer months. Well worth a visit.
