Cattle return to Folly Bog and Hangmoor

Grazing cattle is beneficial to the habitat of Folly Bog and Hangmoor in Lightwater. They’re good at keeping invasive scrub and grasses in check, letting lower-growing species flourish.

This week, on a heathland walk, I saw black and white Belted Galloway Cattle near the fence of the Bisley nad Pirbright ranges at Folly Bog.

They’re part of the lowland heathland management scheme of Surrey Wildlife Trust, and have just been introduced to the area

They’re gentle animals, and I look forward to encountering them on the path on my next walk in the heathland, as I did ast year, when the cattle were light brown Belted Galloways.
