Have at least three council meetings to attend this week, so it’s back to work with a vengeance.
The key one for me is the Community Services Scrutiny Committee on Thursday the 6th September. The main topic is on Council support for young people, which includes a presentation by Surrey Heath Youth Council.
Specific to Lightwater, what’s needed urgently is a meeting space for young people in the centre of the village. That’s what I’m being told. While Surrey Heath isn’t the formal provider of services for young people [that's a Surrey County Council role], we provide play areas, and opportunities and support for young people to get involved in sport. Must do some detailed fact-finding before the meeting.
I’ve also received three invitations to events in Sepetember and October, more on these in the next blog post

Hi Tim,
The Windle Valley Youth Project aims to support all young people in Bagshot, Lightwater and Windlesham. We’ve been hosting a group of the Police, a Parish Councillor, Bisley Youth Centre (our designated statutory provision) and the youth worker from All Saints Church to look at the needs of young people in Lightwater. As a result of that we’ve been doing some street work on a Friday evening in Lightwater and have won some funding to develop that work more.
It would be great to hear from the people who are telling you of the needs and to understand those needs more so we can develop appropriate services with them.
As you rightly mention, a space for young people in the middle of Lightwater would be great so we’d love to hear people’s ideas or offers (yes we’ve thought and asked about George’s).
There are of course the fantastic youth clubs run on a Friday night by All Saints and various other clubs WVYP runs in the local villages that are used by young people from Lightwater.
