For the last few years I’ve been very Borough and Surrey-centric. So the train journey on the Cathedrals Express through Reading provided an opportunity to see massive change at Reading Station, un-noticed previously by me, although not my wife. But that’s another story.
Seeing all this change prompted thoughts about our economy. While there’s no doubt Europe and the UK are suffering from recessionary pressures, there’s still investment and progress in the UK economy. Reading Station re-development is one such, and there are many others, locally, such as Frimley Park Hospital. I know these are public sector investments. But, I remain positive that our instinctive, and essentially optimistic, mercantile nature will overcome the purveyors of national economic doom, as evidenced by the third month in a row of falling unemployment.
The picture shown, taken on June 14th, can be seen in detail HERE. There’s been significant progress since that date, with the erection of the steel work for the new station.
