Practice and preparation improves chance of success

Last night was an important meeting of the whole council of Surrey Heath Borough Council. The key topics were the adoption of  the General Fund report, and the agreeing the rate of Council Tax for the 2012/13.

We decided on no increase in Council Tax for 2012/13.  Partly due to the good work of the council in its transformation project, which derives financial savings from efficiency savings.

It was a good-humoured, yet serious meeting. It was, perhaps, my best chairing of a meeting of the whole council, helped by my increased familiarity with procedures, and some careful pre-meeting preparation.

So, just as I become competent in chairing a meeting of the whole council, I’ve only one more meeting to chair before the final one where I hand over the chair.
