It’s a revelation that we have so many terrific concert bands in and around our Borough.
We’ve recently attended Charles Church Camberley Band’s Christmas concert at High Cross Church [see photo of the band]. At the same venue even more recently, Sandhurst Silver Band were the guests at Surrey Heath Choral Society’s Christmas concert.
Over the Remembrance weekend, in November, we were attended a Royal British Legion concert from the Farnborough Concert Band of the Royal British Legion.
All these band concerts were hugely enjoyable. As they nearly all seem to get involved in competitions, which are mostly in the Midlands and the North, I wonder whether there’s a possibility that Surrey Heath could host a Concert Band Day, with bands playing and marching through the town, and also playing at venues such as the Camberley Theatre, High Cross Church and the like. With all the new hotel space appearing in Camberley, we might even become a tourist venue for Concert Bands. Let me know if you think this is a good idea.
If you don’t think there are that many concert bands in our area, here are the ones that I know about, and have heard – that is all except the Bourne Concert band. There may be others.

We are so honoured this Christmas to be hosting the “Christmas Spectacular Family Concert” at St Paul’s on 17 Dec 2011 at 7.30pm.
Featuring the premier of “A Celt in Jerusalem”, composed especially for St Paul’s by the Diretor of Music of the Sandhurst Silver Band.
