New playground opens at Camberley Infants & Nursery School

We were delighted to have been invited to officially open the new playground at Camberley Infant & Nursery School on Monday morning. It’s a lovely school, modern in design – being built in 1986, and with a heritage going back to 1889. They still have the school bell from the old school and a plaque commemorating the old school building.

The extensive school grounds are a real asset, with six wonderful large Wellingtonia trees [Sequoiadendron giganteum], which also form part of the school’s logo. The new playground benefits from a TigerMulch® surface – a coloured spongy rubber mulch. It’s where most of money was spent from the £10,000 raised by the Camberley School Friends Association for the new playground.

The school is due to merge with Watchetts Junior School, and Bristow Infant School. With the new school beginning in September 2012. Mrs Jane Sweeney – the headteacher – said that they’re considering names for the new school. Current suggestions are Trinity, and Three Oaks, with three oaks being based on the planting of an oak tree in each of the schools.

Junior and infants schools are always terrific places to visit. Teachers are dedicated and caring, and the children are fun-loving and curious. Something that always brings out the admiration in me is the way the headteachers are able to control children and organise them.
