The Mayor of Surrey Heath, Cllr Craig Fennell, gave the welcome address to Mary Bennett, on the launch of her book – Camberley: A History at a meeting of the Surrey Heath History Society yesterday evening.

Mary gave the audience a fascinating illustrated talk on the history of Camberley. An accomplished presenter, Mary knows that history comes alive when there are photographs, maps, and evidence of the past. Her book contains over book 150 illustrations.

The book is available from the publishers, Phillimore & Co, and yes, I did buy a copy, and got it signed by Mary too.

Short of an idea for an Xmas present, well, this has to be one, especially if you’re a Camberley resident. This is Mary’s second book about Surrey Heath, her earlier book – Life and work on Surrey Heath, focussed on how people made a living.
