Small real ale breweries, another growing trend

Ascot AlesA few years ago at a Lightwater Business Association organised event in Lightwater’s village square, I manned the stand offering samples from Hogs Back Brewery. I tasted them all. I liked their TEA [Traditional English Ale]. Drinking, even in small quantities of their stronger beers, Wobble in a Bottle and O.T.T in the morning after a light breakfast went straight to my legs. No wonder it’s called Wobble.

I said to myself then that one day I’d like a tour of Hogs Back Brewery.  Thanks to a promotion in this year’s Heritage Open Day’s I got my tour.

Right, to the get to the point. Small breweries is a growth industry. Having Europe’s most successful consumer group – CAMRA - in support is a big help. Now, did you know that Camberley has a brewery? Visitors to Saturdays’ LBA Craft Fair do now, as Ascot Ales wares were on display. My choice, their Posh Pooch real ale. I spotted quite a few people carrying off variety packs of their bottled beers.

For a local real ale treat, the Woking Beer Festival in November is surely a must. Although it looks like there aren’t that many tickets remaining.
