Way, way back in April 2007, not long after I began this blog, I wondered idly whom I’d invite to a right-wing dinner party. I didn’t think too deeply about it, imaging it might entertain readers. Although I do remember having some core choices – Liam Halligan, Jeff Randall, and Dominic Grieve.
I included conservative MP Julie Kirkbride. I think she’d recently appeared on a BBC Question Time programme, and I remember being impressed. Here’s what I said, “ an intelligent woman’s insight, the timbre of whose voice reminds me of strong dark coffee and cream, delightful.” Hmmm, must have been weak willed, and succumbed to her delivery.
In a recent conversation, in the pub after a leaflet delivery session, someone commented about her choice of men. Not only, now disgraced, husband Andrew MacKay, but her former fiancee Stephen Milligan.
I need a reappraisal of whom to invite to a right wing dinner party. More serious assessment of right-wing credentials is needed. Julie Kirkbride won’t make it into my new list. The revised list will take a day or two to complete.
