Lightwater’s Remembrance Day

The War Memorial in Lightwater

The War Memorial in Lightwater

I attended Lightwater’s Remembrance Day service last Sunday. Wonderfully solemn.

I wonder, does any other country do it quite so well?

It seemed to me that this year there were even more young people in attendance. The Mayor and Mayoress of Surrey Heath, Cllr and Mrs Alan Whittart, were present in full mayoral regalia, adding a touch of civicality to make it even more special.

An improvement in this years’ event was the support of the local police to halt to traffic while the ceremony of remembrance took place by the War Memorial. Last year there was a jarring note when a bus decided it couldn’t wait, and drove past during the service.

I can’t beat the thoughts I expressed HERE on last year’s Remembrance service.
