Photo Quiz 9

Yes, yes, it’s a memorial.

But more importantly, where can you see it?  What national event of significance is commemorated by the memorial? and not just what it says on the stone memorial.

ANSWER:

It’s just off the main path in Chobham Place Woods. When visiting Chobham Place Woods, there’s a helpful information board on its history.

The memorial commemorates the time, in 1853, when the whole of the British Army assembled together for a summer training camp, and was reviewed by Queen Victoria.

Also notable is that a relative of Sir Edward Le Marchant, who erected the memorial, was responsible for founding the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst.
