Last night I attended a meeting of the Council’s Policy and Audit Scrutiny Committee. Not my normal fare, being a bit too full of finances and audit for my liking.
My purpose in attending was to listen to the report of Andrew Smith, the Council’s Emergency Planning Officer, and to ask a few questions.
Wouldn’t you know it, it was the last but one item on the agenda. As it was after 9.0pm my questions weren’t exactly what the Committee were looking for, having spent some hours considering the: Internal Corporate Governance Annual Report, Delivering Good Governance in Local Government Draft Framework, Draft Final Accounts, and the External Audit and Inspection Plan.
But, Andrew’s report was worth waiting for. An excellent summary of the Council’s emergency preparedness. Interestingly, Andrew said that a further ‘table-top’ emergency planning training exercise is planned this year, with flooding as the chosen emergency.
I believe our Council’s flood prevention work is already showing results, and their continuing focus on flood prevention and flood emergency planning is good news indeed.
I’ll not put any links here. If flooding is your bag, then click on Flooding in the Categories opposite. You’ll not be disappointed if you’re looking for more information on the subject.
