Car parking ain’t cheap

I parked in Woking’s Victoria Road car park last Friday to attend a media skills workshop, held in Woking’s Council Offices.

I liked that it was convenient, well lit, had clear signage and bright decor, and that its parking bay’s were clearly marked.

But, what I didn’t like was the cost – £8.10 to park for eight hours.

However, I guess Woking’s car park refurbishment program has to be paid for.

Car parking charges are an important source of income for Council’s. And so, I contented myself with the thought that I’d helped reduce Woking resident’s Council Tax.

It did remind me though that the cost of parking a car is an irritant to all car owners. The pain, in monetary terms, is hardly noticeable when the car park stay is short, but is much greater when it’s a long stay.

As car parking is, probably, an issue for many Borough’s, I think I’ll keep a diary of those that I visit with the objective of becoming more knowledgeable about parking provision.
