Set your video recorder to capture Episode 2 of the reprise of Edwardians in Colour – The wonderful world of Albert Kahn at 7.30pm on BBC2 on Friday 23rd of November.
This is magical TV as I described HERE.
Previously shown on BBC4, where you can find THIS informative programme page, it’s a wonderful combination of evocative colour photographs from early in the 20th century, matched with academic erodition describing the images of societies captured, excellent voice over, and unobtrusive but pleasing backgroud music.
The next episode includes early photographs of Britain and Ireland, and includes photographs like the one above of the statue of Eros in Picadilly Circus.
What I’m really keen to see again are the fascinating photographs taken of now lost societies in central Asia. These photographs are what caused me to describe the series as magical - as they teased one’s mind about times past, and the good and bad things now gone forever.
Did this reprise catch me out – yes! I only caught part of the last Friday’s episode, meaning I’ll definetly be planning a Parisian escapade to visit the Musee Departmental Albert Kahn [Wikipedia entry HERE]on the outskirts of Paris.
